Week after week, records have been threatened, birdies have become commonplace, and the standard across the society has been nothing short of exceptional. But while everyone else has been feeling the heat…

🥇 Mark Graves – “The Iceman”
Mid-Season Rating: 10/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Every season produces a player who simply seems to find another level. This year, it’s Mark Graves. The numbers speak for themselves:

- 15 Birdies
- 1 Eagle
- 1 Unforgettable Hole-in-One ⛳
It’s not just what Mark is doing—it’s how he’s doing it. Every time the pressure builds, he seems to become calmer. Every big moment seems to belong to him. That hole-in-one will rightly live long in Widows folklore, but it’s the consistency surrounding it that makes this campaign so impressive.
If someone wants to be Champion Golfer this year… they’re going to have to knock The Iceman off the top.
Verdict: The benchmark for everyone else.
🥈 Paul Leech – “The Birdie Machine”
Mid-Season Rating: 9.5/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
If Mark has been the coolest player this season, Paul has been the busiest. Nineteen birdies tell the story of another superb campaign, and sitting just two points behind Graves means the title race is anything but over. Quietly efficient, relentlessly consistent, and always dangerous. The Birdie Machine keeps rolling.
Verdict: Still Mark’s biggest threat.
🥉 Tim Crane – “The Handicap General”
Mid-Season Rating: 9/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Captaincy appears to suit Tim perfectly. He’s led from the front, climbed into third place, and put together one of the most consistent seasons in the society.
However… the investigation into his handicap remains ongoing. Tim insists everything is perfectly legitimate. The Handicap Committee agrees. The rest of the Widows… aren’t entirely convinced.
Verdict: Outstanding golf… suspiciously outstanding golf.
🎭 Andy King – “The Entertainer”
Mid-Season Rating: 8.5/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Nobody produces more excitement than Andy. His 21 birdies are the most by anyone this season, proving once again that when The Entertainer gets going, nobody attacks a golf course quite like he does.
The only frustration? Those fireworks haven’t quite translated into a title challenge. If he can combine his fearless golf with a little more consistency over the closing weeks, don’t be surprised if he has a huge say in how this season finishes.
Verdict: Still the favourite for Birdie King.
🎓 John Hopkins – “The Professor”
Mid-Season Rating: 8.5/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
After flying out of the blocks at the start of the season, John has settled into another quietly impressive campaign. Golf always seems easier when The Professor is around. Methodical, calm, and rarely making mistakes. Never underestimate experience.
Verdict: Always lurking.
🦿 Brian Hamer – “The Bionic Man”
Mid-Season Rating: 8/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Brian’s season has been interrupted by a new knee, but before heading for surgery he’d already reminded everyone of the quality he possesses. The Widows wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming The Bionic Man back to the first tee.
Verdict: Expected back stronger than ever.
🏆 Keith Tyler – “The Comeback Kid”
Mid-Season Rating: N/A
Defending a title is difficult. Defending one while injured is almost impossible. Last year’s Champion has managed only limited appearances, but seeing Keith back on the course recently was one of the biggest positives of the summer. A champion never forgets how to win.
Verdict: One nobody wants to face.
💥 Stuart Webb – “The Loose Cannon”
Mid-Season Rating: 8/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Predicting Stuart’s golf is impossible. One Sunday he looks capable of shooting the lights out. The next, he’s conducting a full tour of every woodland area surrounding the golf course. Nobody—not even Stuart—knows what version is turning up. Which is exactly why everyone loves playing with The Loose Cannon.
Verdict: Guaranteed entertainment.
🤝 David Leech – “Mr Reliable”
Mid-Season Rating: 7.5/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
David has quietly climbed into the top half with another dependable campaign. No fuss, no drama, just solid golf and valuable points. Every society needs a Mr Reliable.
💪 Barry Humphrey – “Baz the Battler”
Mid-Season Rating: 7/10 ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
Barry never gives anything away. Every point is earned; every match is a scrap. He may not always make the headlines, but nobody enjoys playing against Baz.
🎢 Dave Hope – “The Rollercoaster”
Mid-Season Rating: 7/10 ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
Dave’s season has had more ups and downs than anyone else’s. One week he’s capable of beating the very best, the next he’s collecting an apron and wondering where it all went wrong.
Unfortunately, his campaign has been cut short while he recovers in hospital. Everyone at Widows Golf wishes The Rollercoaster a speedy recovery—we’re all looking forward to seeing you back on the fairways soon, Dave.
Verdict: Get well soon, Dave. The Widows isn’t the same without you.
🐎 Mike Hunt – “The Dark Horse”
Mid-Season Rating: 6.5/10 ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
There have been flashes. There have been signs. The second half of the season could still belong to Mike if everything clicks. Never underestimate the Dark Horse.
🎬 Graham Walker – “The Director”
Mid-Season Rating: 6.5/10 ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
“Whether it’s committee business, clubhouse logistics or checking what’s on Sky Sports, Graham always has one eye on the bigger picture. The challenge now is keeping both eyes on the golf ball.”
Verdict: Fortunately for Graham… there’s no relegation in Widows Golf.
⏰ Matt Fryatt – “The Snooze Button”
Mid-Season Rating: 5/10 ⭐⭐☆☆☆
Matt currently props up the table, but it’s difficult to climb the leaderboard if you don’t make it to the first tee. The biggest challenge doesn’t appear to be his golf… it’s whether he fancies getting out of bed on a Sunday morning. The Widows remain hopeful that The Snooze Button will hit Dismiss instead of Snooze a few more times before the season is over.
Verdict: The alarm clock is currently 1 up.
